'Ark at Me!

Would you Adam n Eve it?  I am actually rather excited by this little lot...

Nice, healthy food that I chose!

It's Saturday and what this used to mean was Domino's Mighty Meaty pizza followed by ben n Jerry's chocolate ice cream, with brownies and almonds AND CREAM added to it.  That wouldn't be the only thing I'd eat all day either, because we'd go to Tesco and do a 'big shop' which meant I'd overload the trolley with all sorts of tasty shit.  Sweets, chocolate, cake, different cheeses and dips for when the kids have gone to bed and Me & S watch a film.  Well, no more!

I bought fresh, lean turkey to have with salad, instead of being lazy and just eating the spag bol that S was cooking for him and the kids...with grated cheese and garlic bread.  It does smell gorgeous though ;(
I also bought Burgen bread with soya & linseed, so i don't feel left out when the others have a bacon sandwich tomorrow morning for breakfast.

My favourite new find is anchovies.  Not the nasty over salted variety but the ones in olive oil and chilli, or sundried tomatoes.  I discovered sundried toms when I was in Austrailia in 1999 and used to put them in foccacia bread with chicken, bacon and avocado.  That is still my favourite sandwich. Just superb and can actually be served for dinner too, coz it's so filling.  Even S loves it, minus the sundried toms though!

These little beauties are soooooo moreish and I'm sure they are good for you.  I know they are drizzled in oil and are probably naturally salty but they have gotta be better for me than crisps and chocolate.  Plus, I just tried to convince Linda (and her twaddle) that eating more fish and olive oil is great for cutting down cholestoral, rather than turning vegan, which she is considering after having her smug-low-cholestoral face wiped off by an over zealous doctor.

We also have a cherry tree that was given to us by S's Mum for Christmas.  It's finally started bearing fruit and so I'll be adding them to my yoghurt if the bloody blackbirds don't get them first.  We just shoo'd one away who was making off with one.  I wouldn't mind but the entire tree is only bearing four others so far!
The aftermath - Honestly, it was like a scene from Hitchcock's, The Birds!

Our lovely little cherry tree
I missed the gym yesterday and am not going today either, as the running expert/salesman recommended I lay off the treadmill for a couple of days as I have the start of shin splints but I am going to do Tracy Andersons Mat Workout this evening, after the kids have gone to bed...instead of cheese n crackers n dips.  It's hard but I'm feeling confident and S commented this morning that the whites of my eyes looked really bright and that I looked young! Whoop whoop!!!!! ;)

  1. I have to say that I am very impressed at your resolve and commitment to the cause of losing weight and getting fit. You are almost (almost - don't get too excited) making me want to start behaving myself!! I agree with you. It is sheer bad habits and laziness that stops us all eating healthily. That said, I am just going to have scrambled egg on toast instead of the kebab that I am ordering for the old man and my son. So a step in the right direction for me if nothing else xx Good luck. I will do my bit by emailing you with all the naturally good and low fat food finds that I make. Am very very impressed Debs x

  2. update - scrambled egg was just OK! :) the kebabs looked gorgeous! I was good and threw the leftovers straight in the bin. I feel all holier than thou now! x

  3. SPhillips05 - Thank you x Re the kebab vs scrambled egg, there'd be no contest in the taste war. I've had two kebabs from the takeaway shop in the last two weeks, (the last one was friday night, drunk with S and we still owe them £3.00 after they delivered but we had insufficient funds!!!! Anyway, instead of the usual doner with garlic & chilli sauce, I had chicken shish, with salad and no sauce...I did eat all the pitta bread and I think there was a little chilli sauce on it. They are marinated in so much garlic and the salad is usually soaked in vinagerette anyway, so I really didn't miss the sauce. Plus, the one I had last week, I took half the chicken out and put it in my lunch box an had it with salad the next day at work. If you really want something, I reckon the worst thing you can do is make 'scrambled egg' to compensate. You will end up resenting the very chicken that laid them! x

  4. I actually love scrambled egg. My nan was a chef and taught me when i was really young (about 7)how to make "real" scrambled egg in a saucepan. A kebab would have been less calories probably when the butter and milk is added but hey ho... I felt better for making the "healthy" option anyway x I am feeling alot more up for this healthy eating lark though. I am thinking I may even join slimming world again to keep me on the straight and narrow. If I do it, I am only going to tell you. Otherwise, on days where only a galaxy ripple will do, I get everyone at work looking at me as if I have killed a kitten and saying "what happened to the diet?" Just to fill you in, the largest person in work is a size 10 and they vary between as size 4 (yes really) and a size 10 and then there is me (size 26)great! Unlike you, I don't remember a time where I was slim at all. The smallest I have been since I left school is a size 16. I would very much like to get to be a size 16 again. Before I am 40 would be nice. I am even considering hypnoband therapy which hypnotises you into thinking you have had a gastric band! My mother has offered to pay for that for me. I am still contemplating it.... what do you think?

I will say though, don't fall into the trap of becoming a "diet bore". I doubt you will as you are funny (unwittingly sometimes I bet) and very level headed. My friend Fay is in her 60s now and really glamourous and about a size 12 to 14. She is very tall and can carry any extra weight very well but when she goes on weight-watchers (about twice a year lol) she talks about nothing else but POINTS!!! agggh honestly, I could scream!!! "I had a piece of toast with low fat spread and that was two points and then I had an apple which is meant to be free but I think I will add one point for that. Shall I add one point for that apple? yes, I think I will." She is that obsessed that one year at Christmas, she added a point for the glue on the envelopes that she had been licking for her Christmas cards! I swear to god! I find my eyes glazing over when there are mentions of points... hence the slimming world option and not weightwatchers.

    You have been warned!!!

  5. Sphillips05 - You get 9 WW points for being so observant. I will no doubt become a bit of a diet bore BUT this is my nature. I get obsessed with stuff. And it's not natural for me to choose the healthy option as you can see in http://debadeedoodah.blogspot.com/2011/06/thin-me-and-fat-me-salad-dodger.html So I have to harp on about it all and encourage myself otherwise i'll slip up.
When I smoked, I smoked LOADS, when I dabbled with drugs I dabbled LOADS and the same for drink...so I am just an all round OTT bore!
I think there are big FAT flaws with weiighwatchers points system. They seem to be concerned with sums, rather than health. I got that from their website but as I'm a non member, I could only access so much. I know it's worked for some people though but unlike your glue licking pal, I could never be that strict. I love food and even with all the freedom of unhealthiness and overweightness, I used to get bored of same old, same old. It's all about variety innit?
My dad & your nan were both advocates of 'proper scrambled egg'!
I can't believe the largest in your office is a size 10! Size 4??!! Does she look nice, attractive? Is she healthy? x

  6. ok... I will give you a run down of the office gals! - There are a good few of us now...(started 3 years ago with just 3 including me)...I will be brutally honest as if I am Kate Moss ok?

Leona. Leona is a diet obsessive and is very strict with herself but binges quite alot. She is a small size 8 but a little bit pear shaped and really paranoid about her bum and thighs. She has recently taken up running and completed a half marathon last week (good on her)... in 2 hours and twnety minutes. She was only eating proteins or only eating carbs. She loves chocolate and will make do with sniffing a chocolate biscuit if she is on the diet (aye right - I could do that too!!) like f*ck!

Jo-Ann is the office junior who is 19 and a size 8. She eats ALL day. I mean ALL day. She can often be seen with chocolate brownie lodged in her braces... very attractive! she eats chinese nearly every night and eats the diet quote for a small country every day. I mean WAY more than me and stays at a size 8. She is very lazy and will do anything to avoid actually working for a living but she is a sweetie and I have plenty of banter with her. Jo-Ann's favourite food is crisps and she eats up to 10 packets a day usually space raiders or bikers. She is very unhealthy lol.

Helena. When she started at our place in January 2010, she was a size 12.She told us that she had recently "found god" and was a wonderful Christian. Well one night out with her put paid to that little fabrication as she was like a lunatic lapdancer, snogging all round her and eventually taking the village idiot home for a bit of a fumble. She then met a man who was on trial for Murder (not kidding!) and slimmed down to a size 8. She loves all foods and makes sex noises when she eats. If we go out for lunch, she will take some of yours and everyone elses to "taste" it (and like Joey in Friends i want to shout at her "SARAH DOESN'T SHARE FOOD!!!". She is now a size 8 and happy with her weight but has split up with the loony but as he was into body-building, the worst of it has rubbed off on her and she punishes herself daily with ab rolls (I thought this was a bready delight that had passed me by) crunches (thank god it's..Crunchie) and walks about 6 miles per day. She is very fit and her figure is very toned. But she is not a very nice person at all. SHe is very selfish and bossy and lies to get her own way. Very Christian (not).

Jenna - Is a very healthy eater and a very nice size 10. She has fantastic legs and great skin... she has a healthy approach to her diet and eats loads of salads and veg but will have a bisuit if she fancies one. She is a lovely girl, really good fun and really focused on her career. She is a newly qualified solicitor.

Patricia. Patricia is 45. Sorry didnt give you the ages of the others. (Leona 27, Helena 31, Jo-Ann 19 and Jenna is 27) so yes, Pat is 45. She is a size 4. She is only 4 foot 11 though and is naturally petite. She has a wonderful figure. She has a fair set of tatas and really curvy figure. Sounds really weird but she is really lovely looking. She doesnt look her age at all. She has this map mop of naturally corkscrew curly hair which is black and these massive blue eyes. She has swarthy skin which she puts down to her gypsy heritage lol.. She is very healthy eating too. She always takes the healthy option, always. She has been known to take a week over eating a fry's turkish delight. She walks to work and home again every day. (8 miles) she walks up 8 flights of stairs to the office every day about 6 times as well. (I take the lift OBVIOUSLY! as I would die if I walked up the stairs)

  7. Andrea (boss from hell) when describing the office earlier, I didn't mention Andrea as she is my boss and, as you know, I don't like her very much really. She is 5 ft 11 and about a size 14-16. She has an odd figure. She has really big arms (pat calls them dinner lady arms) and is VERY VERY pale. She has bright ginger hair. She eats healthily but drinks a bottle of wine every night and about 8 bottles of wine over a weekend! We really should get along better but she spoils it as she spends nearly her whole life in a mood (with me most of the time).

Leona has a long time partner who she is desperate to have propose - they have been together 7 years. Jenna is single as is Andrea. Paricia is in a long term relationship but does everything she can to avoid moving on to the next level (ie moving in together) she is completely independant and a complete rocker - She LOVES Bon Jovi. Jo-Ann has been with "Phil" for 8 months and treats him like shit. He is like her lap dog lol... Helena is single again after dabbling with her violent paramilitary boyfriend...

I wont go into details about me. I am clinically obese. Eat too much. Binge drink on a Friday. Smoke. Don't do drugs anymore but that is mainly because I cannot afford it.

I am Sarah and I am a fat bitch!

Sorry that post was so long... but I got right into it!

  8. Hahaha love the detail. I think I would LOATHE Helena !
I love the sound of Pat the rocking health freak dwarf ! And I don't think I could take Joanne seriously with dirty teeth! YUK...And you know who'd end up straaaaangling her? Chareen! She HATES the crunch, cruch, crunch of people eating crisps.
I am getting called repeatedly to watch Gremlins on DVD now...so speak later ;) You are not a fat bitch ;)

  9. Well, quick update. We have had a family conference - yes, these things happen in this house. Mainly when I am pre-menstrual and very confrontational! We have all agreed that for the next two weeks (none of us can think further ahead than that) we are going to have healthy, home cooked meals. NO takeaways - no junk food - no crap. I am going to go to Iceland in my lunch break tomorrow. They have really good fresh fruit and salad in the Belfast branch and I am going to make sure that I have plenty of chicken in the house - pasta as well. We are all going to see how it goes. I am also going to stricve to drink 2 litres of water per day and walk my dogs in the evening - a good long walk. I am hoping that I will feel better. I know I will. I am going to treat myself to a spray tan in a couple of weeks as a treat for doing it! I will upload pictures of my meals every day to facebook so that you can see what sort of things we are eating. If nothing else, for a bit of inspiration. I have some very good recipes actually. Most of which are "free" on Slimming world but all very tasty. These include chips (yes really) veg curry. Light lasagne, gorgeous minestrone soup, veg soup, tomato pasta sauce and fantastic tandoori chicken.... If you want any of the recipes let me know...and I will email you them... in fact, idea wise, I might start making full recipes for quick and easy low fat meals... there may be a market for one of those (LOL) xx good luck for the week ahead - will email you x

  10. OOH YES...tandoori chicken please x

    GO ON !!!

  11. I did actually steal the recipe for tandoori chicken from a website but I adapt it a bit as I don't like coriander....

Try this website... it is great x

  12. Okay, I won't do the vegan thing as I do like fish and after seeing the photo of your fish here I remembered how much I love herrings and sardines. Mmmmm.

And they do not make me fart.

I am duly impressed by your choices and your resolve. It makes such a difference to every aspect of your life when you are healthier. You only get one body so you may as well be kind to it because, unlike a car, there really are no spare parts to fix it inside.

  13. Linda - haha you'd think our systems would be used to ifferent foods by our age wouldn't you but I had 4 slices of the most delicious home made organic choc & raspberry cake last night and a bottle of wine...(went to a rare girls night in - kareoke) and I shat for England this morning! That's just after 4 weeks of healthy eating and no crap (pardon the pun).
Fish is fab...shame a lot of it's dwindelling.
